(Daily Express) – Hazel Manning, the wife of former Prime Minister Patrick Manning, was nostalgic this morning as she cast her vote at the Methodist Primary School in San Fernando.
While her son Brain Manning, the candidate for the San Fernando East seat who voted earlier in Port of Spain was present after she emerged from the polling station, her husband was not at her side.
Former Prime Minister Manning who represented the San Fernando East constituency for decades, passed away in 2016.
Hazel Manning said she felt good for her son but “a little bit nostalgic … I’m sure that Patrick will be pleased with what’s happening.”
Manning said since her husband’s death, this was the second time she left a polling station without him. “He would have enjoyed being here but that’s life,” she told reporters.
She added that she was “quite pleased” with the manner in which the Covid-19 guidelines were executed at the polling station.
Brian Manning who aid his red mask bore no significance, added that no voting issues had been brought to his attention for the morning. “The only issue I’ve had is where I’m going to find a big enough cocoyea broom because today is sweeping time … We did all we could and this is San Fernando East and I’m expecting a resounding victory today. It’s going to be sweeping time and that’s what I think we are all going to see later on when the polls start coming in.”
