What was meant to be a funeral service for the late Jun Abbott turned into a protest action within the walls of the Georgetown Police Station.
Abbott was shot and killed by police officers on August 1st, 2020 in the vicinity of his home. Police claimed he had a gun in his hand and refused to obey their command to drop the weapon. Police officers on the scene reported that instead he turned around and opened fire. The party of officers said they returned fire killing Jun.
A Coroner’s Inquest is to be established to look into the circumstances of his death.
However, mourners at the deceased funeral today (15 August, 2020) congregated outside the Georgetown Police Station when the funeral procession passed by. They chanted boos and sang ‘bun dem with the Holy Ghost’.
Some of the protesters/mourners made their way into the police station at which point the police attempted to close the entrance door. The video shows that the police was obstructed from dispersing the mob of protesters.
The large crowd which gathered sang and danced in the police station, its entrance and immediate environs.
