I saw on social media that the public was incensed when the President of VINTAS asked ‘Where is the parent?’ following the unfortunate accident involving the 9 year old school child.
At no point did the goodly President from the article I read was being insensitive. But parents and headline watchers jumped at the opportunity to personally bash the president without even considering the question that he asked.
You heard all sort of excuses of why parents cannot take up their own responsibilities. So, if the parents cannot, does it automatically fall to van drivers and conductors? Does duty of care mean babysitting? One person said that she witnessed a conductor taking care of a one year old in a bus while trying to attend to other passengers. Is that right?
I ask those parents, what about when van drivers ask about helping them out, look how you berate these same guys on radio and social media. You say that they are not deserving of an increase in bus fare. You disconnect yourselves from the fact that they help you and your child on a daily basis. You don’t care they have children too because all you see is a driver. You know everything has gone up in the country and that maintaining their vehicles is getting more expensive, but the bus fare has never really changed to match the rate of increase.
I think parents should pay a little extra if children are travelling unattended in public transport to and from school. It’s wicked sometimes the 50 cents they want to give van drivers and van owners. When you send your child unaccompanied on an airline, you pay a high service charge without complaint. Now that is something you should be outraged about.
