One bride from the Windward side of the island lost control of her wedding when family members took over the planning of her big day. Looking back, the bride told Breadfruit News:
“For me alone, I go to the courthouse in jeans and top then go supermarket, go home and cook”.
“Imagine having no say over your wedding because you have to cater for Mr this and Mr that” who were prominent guests from our community.
But the young bride who does not regret marrying her husband still feels deceived by the caterer his family used.
“Imagine we travelled overseas and bought all the ingredients for example for the cake. We bought flour, raisins, eggs, sugar, icing, you name it, we bought it. She still charged us $4000 for the wedding cake although we provided the full ingredients ourselves.”
“same thing for the food, we had goat, pig, sheep etc delivered to her. We paid for everything, you don’t want to hear how much she charged. Our wedding cost more than $50,000 not including the stuff we sent to St. Vincent in about 8 barrels”.
“On the day of the wedding the caterer and her staff drink out the bar and had food at their own pleasure even refusing my own father from getting a second drink”.
“My dad had to cuss at my own wedding because of the way he was being treated. My husband and I only had once slice of cake after paying $4000 for the cake”.
When asked how many persons attended the wedding, the married woman with a one year old child said:
“we had over 300 persons, some were invited, some were not but I had no choice. I gave up after I realised that no one was listening to what I wanted. That’s how I operate, I just stay silent after I talk and I see you not listening to me”.
“That caterer profited off our wedding unreasonably. Its wickedness and some Vincentians really rob you when you try to do business with them”.
