An accident in the Calliaqua area left one man nursing injuries at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
The man who was crossing the street in the vicinity of Howard’s Marine Ltd apparently “jaywalked” into the oncoming traffic. He was struck by a minibus. However, the impact caused much damage to the van while the man suffered only minor injuries.
He was rushed to the hospital by the driver and conductor. Persons who witnessed the incident including passengers in the van confirmed that “the van driver was blameless as he tried his best to swerve away from the guy and there was nothing else the driver could do”.
“The van driver was not speeding or else the situation could have been worse” said one passenger.
The van’s windscreen was severely damaged by the impact.
The guy was released from the hospital after receiving treatment but he has admitted to being wrong.
One person speaking to BreadFruit News on the condition of anonymity said the driver has been in regular contact with the man and plans to support his recovery.
However, police refused to take a statement at the scene of the incident including from the driver and the witnesses. They said the statements would be taken today but no reason was given.
