TEACHERS’ UNION FUMING OVER CONDITIONS AT BUCCAMENT BAY SECONDARY SCHOOL

The National Executive of the SVG Teachers’ Union (SVGTU) is dissatisfied with the condition of the Buccament Bay Secondary School.

The organisation said in a short statement released on its Facebook page:

“Today (8th September, 2020), members of the National Executive made a subsequent visit to the Buccament Bay Secondary School and determined that the school still does not meet the basic requirement needed for teaching and learning”.

“The Executive has instructed it’s members not to return to the school. A letter was sent to the Ministry of Education stating that the Union has advised it’s members to stay away from the unsafe and unhealthy conditions at the school until it is safe and healthy for them to do so”.

Work is currently being carried out at that institution while school has restarted for the majority of students across the country.

The Ministry of Education had hoped to recommence instruction at the school today following what it said was the completion of necessary cleaning work. However, photos on the SVGTU Facebook page suggest that more substantial works are being carried out which are yet to be completed.
