One driver escaped being thrown in jail after failing to make his commitments to pay child support for several months.
At the start of the new school term, the mother of an 8 year old child reported the van driver to the Welfare department and the magistrate court.
BreadFruit News has learnt that the man in his late 30s drives one of the ‘hot vans’ and it was not the first time that the mother has had to ‘make noise’ to get the necessary support.
It has also been reported that the man also had outstanding fees for another child with a separate lady on the Windward side of the country.
Someone speaking to BreadFruit News said: “Well one of the police officers who were looking for him message the guy and so he run town last week to pay the money”.
“I don’t know if he paid some or all but he back driving. That day he stayed off the road”.
Other persons claim that it is not his ‘baby mothers’ alone that he owes but vendors at Little Tokyo and persons he has borrowed money from but always say he ‘roundsing’ [coming back].
A van owner speaking to us said, “[name called] wutless, you think its two people he owe. I does laugh and tell him all the time he must take care of his children. Not even the vendors want see he right now”.
Schools restarted for most students on September 7, 2020. Some single parents have expressed difficulty in meeting their back to school expenses and the ongoing cost of sending their children to school on a daily basis.
