KINGSTOWN, SVG (BreadFruit News) – Central Kingstown MP Hon St. Clair Leacock has confessed that he had told the party to expect a snap elections this month.
However, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has told the nation that he is yet to hear from the Lord about the election date but “his servant Ralph is listening”.
Leacock at the NDP Virtual Public Meeting on September 11th said almost disappointingly:
“Let me confess that I am among those who thought we would have had elections in this month. Clearly that hasn’t happened and normally when a governing party chooses to give up the element of surprise and to catch as they say the opposition with their pants down, it’s also an indication that they are even worse off than the populace thinks”.
“Very soon it would be no more of a guessing game. It begs the question as to whether the elections would then be in October”.
“And that’s not an important consideration for me because when you have a phobia as some people believes the Prime Minister has and the party has, you begin to think in terms of sevens, so if its not going to be the 7th of October then you want to know where next”.
“Now the way I think is that the one time per year that he is able to evoke some emotion in the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is October 27th when there is national independence. And so, the jury also has to be out as to whether we would have an election in October or whether he would seize that opportunity to masquerade around the independence celebrations, have the children waving a set of banners, deliver some goodies and to proceed to some date”.
The Prime Minister announced over the weekend that he is expected to travel to Boston, USA to deal with some important family matters, specifically referring to the heath of his wife Eloise Gonsalves and son Adam Gonsalves.
He is not expected back until the 26th September. Political watchers have ruled out an election announcement with the Prime Minister travelling overseas.
