I had hedged my bets on a December election. In fact, I had placed my bet on December 10th as the most likely date. I was wrong.
The Comrade has done well to shorten the campaign period to a matter of 4 weeks allowing the energy on the ground to be sustained. I guess both parties have been calling for the bell to be rung but it was labour supporters who were most vocal as they wish to vote with a vengeance. They kept calling on the Comrade to ring the bell to send home the NDP.
No one truly knows the outcome of the next general elections. It is incumbent that every Vincentian vote. It does not matter who you vote for but you should exercise this right.
As for me and my house, we will be voting labour. The reasons are clear. In perilous global times, now more than ever, we need tried, tested and stable leadership. The ULP platform is fresh with a good mixture of youth and experienced hands.
Moreover, there is a compelling development narrative that is people centric; not business centric as the Opposition party espouses. In this Covid-19 period, I want a government coming to work every day protecting and supporting our people.
As far I have heard from the NDP, their first day in office is geared towards protecting the interests of businesses and party financiers.
And on important subjects such as Taiwan, the party has been most reticent. Moreover, their cowardice plan to switch allegiance to China without coming to the people is a jaundiced view that the populace is not prepared to consider the importance of foreign policy in the upcoming elections.
There will be a chance for the NDP in the future but not 2020; it will be wrong to gamble with our lives at this stage.
