Kingstown, SVG (BreadFruit News) – North Leeward Constituency located in the Red Zone tonight held their first meeting under the chairmanship of Parliamentary Representative for the Area and Minister of Tourism, et al. Hon Carlos James as they prepared for the possibility of an emergency evacuation.
The meeting was geared towards address issues relating to the Country’s National Emergency Plan and our overall preparedness.
Hon Carlos James thank all the first responders, community leaders, medical personnel, staff from BRAGSA, VINLEC, Church Leaders, Red Cross and other NGO’s for participating in tonight’s Emergency Management meeting.
According to a release from the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), “an Aerial reconnaissance conducted today Wednesday, December 30 indicates that there are no significant changes at the La Soufriere Volcano since Tuesday, December 29. 2020. Magma continues to ooze to the surface and the dome has increased size”.
The release went on to further state that the “The Executive Committee of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), which comprises Technical Officers from the various Government Departments, Private Sector and Non- Governmental Organizations met today at NEMO’s Conference Room to activate plans, in the event that the level of seismicity increases and evacuation becomes necessary”.
NEMO wishes to once again reminding the public that no evacuation order or notice has been given and that the public should desist from visiting the La Soufriere Volcano until the scientists advise that it is safe to do so.
