Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Simone Beache has confirmed that at least one positive Covid-19 patient has been admitted at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital overnight for care while another is receiving care at the isolation facility.
Dr Roger Duncan who is a Medical Health Officer told a press conference today that the next couple of weeks are going to be important for his team which is engaged in contact tracing. He asked persons to be forthcoming with information when contacted by health officials.
While the CMO said that Health officials have identified at least two clusters of positive cases, she did not identify the location or the event that may have caused the transmission of the disease. An additional four cases overnight have increased the number of cases under investigation to 16.
At this time, the Ministry of Health is reluctant to declare community spread in St. Vincent and the Grenadines choosing instead to say that cases remain “under investigation”.
Responding to a question at the same press conference, Dr Beache revealed that two health care workers tested positive for the virus but quickly noted that the cases were not linked to the work place. She said “Keeping our healthcare staff safe is an extremely important goal for this Ministry of Health”.
She related that the two workers are in a stable condition.
