North Leeward welcomed the MV Gem Star II, the first commercial vessel to dock at the newly constructed Chateaubelair Wharf.

Its arrival was followed by Coastguard vessel, the Captain Hugh Mulzac. North Leeward MP Carlos James in an online posted stated the wharf will be a major hub for commercial activity for North Leeward.

A little over a week ago, James said that in the event of a possible evacuation due to activity at La Soufriere volcano, the jetty could be used to get residents to safety.

His statement was challenged by some persons who said the jetty was incomplete.

The North Leeward MP subsequently stated that the Chateaubelair Wharf was structurally complete and could be used in the event of an emergency evacuation.
