After serving as Manager of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Senior Men’s Football Team- Vincy Heat for the last two years, Rohan Thomas Jr. has tendered his resignation, effective 8th February.
In a terse letter addressed to Wayne Grant, Second Vice- President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF), Thomas wrote inter alia: “This letter serves as formal notice of my resignation from the post of Manager of the SVGFF’s Senior Men’s National Team with immediate effect. Thanks for the opportunity.”
Grant, in acknowledging receipt of Thomas’ letter, thanked him for his service and wished him the “Best of luck” in his future endeavours.
Thomas, in a conversation with THE VINCENTIAN, shared that his decision stemmed from differences of opinions with persons in pivotal positions of the SVGFF, as well as personal reasons.
“Over the last few months, there have been some discrepancies, to which the parties involved have failed to see eye to eye, so along with other personal reasons, I thought it best to relieve myself of the position,” Thomas said.
He referenced, though, that it was not an overnight decision, as there have been some mounting tensions and unresolved issues.
Thomas recognized that his resignation will make way for a new Manager to effect the necessary changes.
As it stands now, the Executive of the SVGFF will have to get that new manager in place in time for St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ matches in next month’s matches against Curacao and the British Virgin Islands, in the CONCACAF Group C of the World Cup Qualifiers.
In a quick look back on his tenure as Manager, Thomas described it as a “humbling” experience, and cited player development as one of his major achievements.
“The staff of the team, myself included, would have prioritised player development… We really tried to develop them holistically by improving their education about the game; improving their training methods, their preparation methods and instilling certain lifestyle changes,” Thomas elaborated.
Thomas replaced Othnell Douglas as Manager of Vincy Heat. Douglas had served for an extended period of time.
If at all the SVGFF has decided on a replacement for Thomas, they did not, up to Wednesday, make it public.
