St Vincent and the Grenadines recorded its fifth murder for 2021 earlier this week, with Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves expressing deep concern.
Speaking on NBC Radio during the Face-to-Face programme, Prime Minister Gonsalves said this type of behaviour needs to stop. He said: “We have to cut out the senseless violence.”
Gonsalves noted the recent killing of a man in Choppins. The victim was shot dead, fell over a bank and was still strangled with a belt. “It’s just senseless,” said the prime minister.
Gonsalves said when such acts of violence occur, resources that could be used in other areas of development must now be redirected.
He noted St Vincent and the Grenadines is a small country that does not have a whole set of material resources, but it does have some assets and people who could develop skills.
