SVGCC INTRODUCES FOOTBALL COACHING COURSE

Those enrolled in the SVG Community College now have an additional course/elective available to them.

In what could be considered a divergence from the norm, the College will introduce from today, Friday 26th February, a Youth Soccer Coaching Certificate Course.

The Course, to be conducted virtually, will run until Wednesday 31st March, 2021.

Open to full time students of the SVG Community College and coaches from exiting Sports Academies, e.g. System 3, the Course, divided into two phases, will run for 32 hours –  18 hours of theory and 14 hours of practical sessions.

Phase One will include 10 hours of online theoretical sessions to be delivered via Zoom.   Phase Two will comprise 8 hours of theoretical sessions and 14 hours of practical sessions, the latter to be conducted following  clearance by the local health authorities.

Participants will also have a written examination at the end of the course and also a practical session with 14 youth players via video to Instructors, 30 days after the Course ends.

Participants are expected to pursue the Course in its entirety and, on successful completion, will receive a Youth Soccer Coaching Certificate and three academic credits.

Further details on the Course say that its objectives are to engage in academic discussion on the fundamentals of Youth Football Development as it relates to the Caribbean, and on a long-term development-strategy concentrating on the Pre-Academy stage (Ages 11-14) of the development pathway.

The Course, an accelerated development programme, will be concentrated on teaching different elements of the pillars of the game: Fitness, Technique, Tactics & Psycho-Social elements.

Lenny Taylor, a USA Soccer Certified Level ‘A’ Coach, and former St. Vincent & Grenadines Men’s Head Coach and St. Kitts & Nevis Technical Director, among other credentials, will be the lead facilitator of the Course.

He will be assisted by Stacy Wilson, US Soccer Federation ‘C’ Licence Coach; Ria Denny, English F.A; Donald Chin-Loy, International Licence Coach; and CONCACAF Event Manager and Venue Coordinator Roxell John.

The Course will be delivered free of cost.
