The St Vincent and the Grenadines High Commission in the UK has issued congratulations to Vincentian national Dr Joan Bailey MBE who has been commissioned as a new Deputy Lieutenant of Bedfordshire. Bedfordshire is a county in the East of England.

Following an agreement from Her Majesty The Queen, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Helen Nellis, signed the Commissions of five new Deputy Lieutenants of the County of Bedfordshire on March 1 and an announcement was placed in The London Gazette.

Deputy Lieutenants assist the Lord-Lieutenant and Vice Lord-Lieutenant in their work to support voluntary, community, statutory, civic, armed forces, business and many other aspects of county life which seek to bring kindness, opportunity and cohesion across Bedfordshire.

Commenting on the commissions, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire said: “I am delighted to welcome five new Deputy Lieutenants to my team, all of whom bring with them their own unique qualities, skills, enthusiasm and diverse experiences.

I am looking forward to working with my new deputies who join a Lieutenancy, themselves all volunteers, which is dedicated to supporting and shining a light on those who work so hard to make Bedfordshire such a vibrant and good-hearted county”.

Bailey said her life has been about social justice and she will use the new role to support the community.

She said: “I am incredibly thankful to HM The Queen and HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Helen Nellis, for appointing me a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Bedfordshire I will use this role to support the amazing community and voluntary sector organisations across Bedfordshire.

They are indeed our unsung heroes and have demonstrated in the last year how fundamental they have been in supporting those with complex needs. My life has been about social justice and particularly young people.

I want to continue to work with our young people and challenge the obstacles that are put before them. I hope that I can inspire them to have dreams and aspirations”.
