AS SVG PREPARES FOR POSSIBLE VOLCANIC ERUPTION SCHOOLS TO REMAIN CLOSED

School in St Vincent and the Grenadines will remain closed as the Government makes preparation for a possible eruption of La Soufriere volcano.

This announcement was made by Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves at an Emergency Press Conference held moments ago at Cabinet Room.

School was schedule to be reopen this coming Monday 12th April, 2021.

Prime Minister Gonsalves during the Press Conference informed the Nation that a New series of activities took place this morning which takes on a different meaning.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that he would Chair a meeting of the National Emergency Council today (April 8th) at 2pm.

According to a media release from National Emergency Management Organisation: “steaming/smoking at the La Soufriere Volcano has increased over the last few hours. However, the alert level remains at Orange. The NEMO is reminding the public that no evacuation order or notice has been issued”.

The release further said: “Residents especially persons living in communities close to the volcano are encouraged to be prepared in the event that it becomes necessary to evacuate at short notice.

The National Emergency Management Organisation will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as it becomes necessary”.
