Zefal Bailey powered his way to the top of the Elite Category, while Peter Durrant continued his reign in the Masters Category, as the first Cycling road race for 2022 took place last Sunday.

Bailey’s winning time was 1: 20.40.11 for a 25.2-mile event.  Second to Bailey was Marlon Antrobus in 1: 22:13.38.

Completing the podium trio was Max Alvis.  He clocked 1: 22.40.28.

Meanwhile, Durrant demonstrated his prowess among the Masters as he stopped the others in their track in a 19.5 mile ride, winning comfortably in a time of 1:01.34.46.

Trailing Durrant to the end line at Argyle Hill was Steve Ollivierre, whose clocking was 1:02.6.58.

Martin Bollers ensured that he was in the mix, as his 1:06.27.55 placed him third.

Two other riders completed the respective distances – Lucky Antrobus in the Elite did 1: 28.22.26 and Carlos Rivas in the Masters segment, returned a time of 1:16.16.88.

The race got going in Stubbs. From there, cyclists rode to Bridgetown, Biabou and back to Argyle. Elite cyclists did two laps, while the Masters did one.

Sunday’s race was sponsored by Premium Products.

But the 2022 St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union’s calendar got going on Saturday at the decommissioned ET Joshua Airport tarmac, as the BMX cyclists took the spotlight.

Engaged in two races, the raw talents of the cyclists came to the fore. Taking race one was Nelson Mc Lean, with Asroy Brereton taking the second race.

Cyclists will return to the road on Saturday 12th February for a Sprint from the ET Joshua Airport tarmac to Belmont, and on Sunday 13th February for a 20-mile Road Race.
