Twenty-nine students in the North Windward were the recipients of backpacks filled with school supplies.
The donations came courtesy the Sunshine Basketball Academy and earlier this week, were handed over to graduating classes of the Fancy Government School, and the Tourama/Overland and Dickson Primary Schools.
The items were part of a donation by Mrs. Diana Moore, one of the Academy’s members based in Canada. Ms. Moore had facilitated the shipment of two barrels of items which included mainly school items, such as notebooks, exercise books, crayons, pens, pencils, folders, scissors and 29 back packs.
This was the Sunshine Basketball Academy’s first visit to the North Windward area since the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano in April 2021, and coordinator Wayne Williams said he was pleased to see things seemingly getting back into place.
He, however, recognized that persons in the area continued to be in need of assistance, particularly children, and thanked the principals and teachers as well as Senator Shevern John for helping with logistics, as well as Vasha Adams and Horaito Skeete for assisting with the packing and facilitation of the handover.
Boxes of additional items were also handed over to the principals of the schools for distributing as they would see fit. (SG)
