The 30th Aquatic Centre International Swim Meet was held in Barbados from 27th to 29th May 2022, and the Black Sands Swim Squad (BSSS) had four swimmers competing, Kennice Greene, Jamie Joachim, Kione Deshong and Kentreal Kydd.
In the girls’ 13 to 14 years age group, Carifta silver and bronze medalist Kennice Greene competed in 10 individual events. She put in a dominating performance and achieved the result she’s trained so hard for. Greene won five gold medals in the 200 IM, 100 Free, 50 Free, 100 Fly and 50 Fly; three silver medals in the 200 Free, 100 Breast and 50 Back; and two bronze medals in the 100 Back and 50 Breast.
Kennice managed to reset two of her own St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) National Records in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:41.21 and in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:01.93.
Kennice collected the trophy for being the top overall swimmer in her 13-14 years age group.
Carifta silver medalist Jamie Joachim performed strongly in the girls’ 13 to 14 years age group. She competed in 9 events, winning three gold medals in 200 Back, 100 Back and 50 Back: and four silver medals in 200 IM, 100 Free, 100 Fly and 50 Fly.
Joachim also did some record re-writing by breaking her own SVG National record in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:13.01.
In the boys’ 9 to 10 years age group was Kione Deshong, whose performance was good but did not win medals.
A newcomer to the BSSS, 15-year-old Kentreal Kydd, one of SVG’s upcoming Para-Swimmers, competed at the event. Kentreal swam a personal best time in the 100 Freestyle in a time of 1:31.66 and in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 38.15. This event was his first regional competition.
