On Friday 3rd June The St. Vincent Co-operative Bank Ltd (SVCBL) took to the fields, this was in recognition to World Environment Day #OnlyOneEarth. This was celebrated on Sunday June 5th, 2022.
In 2020 SVCBL adopted UN sustainable goal 15 “Life on Land” and in keeping with what it stands for the bank embarked on an initiative to engage several schools both primary and secondary by donating vegetable seedlings in hope of nurturing young minds to care for life and the environment.
It was also seen as another form of the schools being able to grow their own vegetables to contribute to their school feeding programme.
The first sets of seedlings were delivered and planted on Friday June 3rd at the Questelles and Sion Hill Primary Schools. The students were elated and waited eagerly to partake in getting their hands dirty.
The comradery that was shown by both teachers and students was evidence that this was not novel to them as the student’s conversations told the story that they were schooled on the importance of planting their own food.
SVCBL will continue with the distribution of seedlings and will continue to play its part in promoting community building and the importance of health and wellness benefits when you grow your own food.
