Non-Resident Ambassador of Panama to SVG presented Letters of Credence to Governor General

– H.E. María Roquebert León, Non-Resident Ambassador of Panama to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines presented Letters of Credence to H.E. Dame Susan Dougan, GCMG, OBE, Governor General of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at Government House on Monday July 18, 2022.

In addition to presenting her Letters of Credence to the Governor General,   Ambassador León held bilateral discussions with Hon. Orando Brewster, Minister of National Mobilisation, Social Development, Family, Gender Affairs, Persons with Disabilities and Youth, Senator The Hon. Keisal M. Peters, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and other Senior Government Officials.

During the bilateral discussion, the officials touched on the history of the Panama Canal and the connections between Panama and the Caribbean and discussed various areas for strengthening the bilateral relations between Panama and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the areas of tourism, air services, health, social development and education. The discussion was also centered on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating effects of the La Soufriére volcano.

Ambassador León also paid courtesy call on Dr. The Hon. Godwin Friday, Leader of the Opposition,Hon. Rochelle Forde, Speaker of the House of Assembly, and, H.E. Mr. José Manuel Leyva Ventura, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.

Ambassador León holds a Master’s Degree in Procedural Law and a Postgraduate Degree in Mediation. Throughout her professional career, Ambassador León has worked as a university professor at the University of Panama (UP) and the Specialized University of the Americas (UDELAS); consultant for civil society organsations; trade union and labor advisor.

In addition, she is a qualified arbitrator in the Special labor Regime of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP). As an experienced public servant, Ambassador León has held the position of Minister of Social Development (MIDES) and Coordinating Minister of the Social Cabinet of the Republic of Panama.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade welcomes Ambassador León and looks forward to further deepening the relations between the Governments and People of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Panama.
