PM GONSALVES CONDEMNS JOURNALIST KENTON CHANCE

“I will speak the truth and I will condemn them.”

Those are the fighting words of Prime Minister Dr Hon. Ralph Gonsalves who used the occasion of the handing over of houses at Orange Hill in the North Windward constituency to condemn those who he claims salivate in destroying the name of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines regionally and internationally.

In an address that ventured into politics, the Prime Minister was in a fiery mood, no doubt buoyant about delivering houses in a battleground constituency.

He lashed out again against the critics of recently promoted Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Senator Hon Keisal Peters. Minister Peters’ style, dress and skin have come under heavy scrutiny by many on social media including lawyer and former Speaker of the House of Assembly Jomo Thomas.

After condemning statements by NDP Vice President St Clair Leacock, Dr Gonsalves reserved his most stinging rebuke for notable journalist Kenton Chance.

He said:

“Kenton Chance by name, who is the correspondent for the Caribbean Media Corporation, the only one. Whatever he sends out, that goes all over the Caribbean. And the smallness of the corespondent’s mind in this regard, of all what happening in St. Vincent…that is what he report? [referring to the skin bleaching accusation against Minister Peters which was carried by the Barbados based Caribbean Media Corporation].

Going deep into the Vincentian dialect for his audience which he is noted to use to good effect, the Prime Minister continued:

“You ain’t go see nothing about these houses, you wouldn’t hear anything about the nearly 900 scholarship grants…the bridges up in Overland and Noel. You ain’t go hear about that but to demean the women of St. Vincent and the Grenadines across the Caribbean.”

“And I am talking about it here because I want the whole of the Caribbean to hear that Ralph Gonsalves, the ancient warrior, he saying, it have some wayward mouth and tongue in this country talking so much thing to pull down the name of St. Vincent And The Grenadines and I will have nothing of it. I will speak the truth and I will condemn them.”
