Dwight Fitz-Gerald Bramble, the elected representative for East Kingstown in St Vincent and the Grenadines has apologised for profanities made in a video while being filmed during a body piercing procedure to his chest.

The video went viral on social media late last week with the member of parliament addressing the incident on Sunday in a Facebook video.

Bramble made it clear that he thought the procedure (body piercing) was done in the freedom and sanctity of his privacy and was one which was a personal choice which did not offend nor violate anyone.

He said the body piercing procedure in the video was done almost two years ago and he was not aware it was posted on social media or that the procedure was being recorded.

Bramble said while the private and personal choice of obtaining a body piercing is not wrong or illegal, he thought it necessary to break the pattern of a lack of accountability by some politicians and address the matter.

The opposition MP said he obtained the body piercing more than a year ago and also has tattoos and other body piercings for years now, even before becoming a member of parliament.

In the video, he said: “This is something our African forefathers have done with pride throughout their history for various reasons including depicting strength and virility.

I have to admit however that the piercing in the video was a lot more painful than I anticipated which resulted in my reaction with very regrettable profanity.

I wish here to sincerely apologise to everyone who was offended by the use of such profanity. The use of such language does not reflect my true character.

As a politician and parliamentary representative for East Kingstown, I am human first, but my commitment to serve you the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines does not change.”

Bramble said it is disheartening and shameful that malicious elements would attempt to use the video to distract from real issues at hand, such as the high cost of living, crime and violence.

He urged people to focus on the real issues affecting the lives of Vincentians.

The video of Bramble’s body piercing procedure has drawn mixed reactions on social media.
