INAUGURAL HAIROUNA-FORMOSA CREATIVE ARTS FESTIVAL 2022

The spotlight turned to Taiwan on the evening of Thursday October 13th when over 1000 patrons gathered at the Russel’s Auditorium to witness a fusion of Taiwanese and Vincentian cultural art forms at the first-ever Hairouna-Formosa Creative Arts Festival.

Taiwan’s Ambassador to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, His Excellency Sha Li-Lan welcomed the first-of-its-kind event, which was financed by a US$30,000 contribution by the Government of Taiwan.

The Ambassador underscored the importance of deepening the diplomatic relations between the two countries through unconventional methods, such as instruments of the creative arts.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves in his remarks noted that the existential linkages between the countries foster a fusion of cultural practices, thereby strengthening diplomatic relations while paving a path for the genius of the people to be manifested in various creative cultural forms.

Dr. Gonsalves said the 41 years of diplomatic relations with Taiwan has fostered peace and harmony for the citizenry, a defense of democratic values, and equal representation on the global stage. Dr Gonsalves said while the two countries enjoy a shared experience, it is expressed in various forms and via different platforms.

The Hairouna-Formosa Festival was a showcase of Taiwan inspired Vincentian poetry, drumming, cycling, creative dance and musical performances stitched together on a patriotic tapestry of Vincentian designs, featuring home grown poets, designers and musicians, among others.
