President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel will make a historic official state visit to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines from Saturday, December 3rd to Monday, December 5th, 2022.
This announcement was made by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves during the sitting of the House of Assembly on Monday, November, 21 2022.
According to Gonsalves, this is the first time since the Cuban Revolution in 1959 that the Cuban president will visit St. Vincent and the Grenadines, before him the vice president did.
“And, of course, we have had Cuban foreign ministers come to visit us. But this is the first time and I am sure the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines will respond very warmly to His Excellency President Miguel Diaz Canal and it would be a strengthening of the bonds of friendship between our two countries,” PM Gonsalves said.
Prime Minister Gonsalves said that On Monday, December 5th, at 10:00 a.m Parliament will hold a formal sitting in honour of the visiting Cuban leader and that as has been the case when heads of governments have addressed Parliament, he, the Leader of the Opposition, Dr Godwin Friday, and Speaker of the House will also address the Parliament.
The Cuban President will travel to Barbados to attend the 8th Cuba CARICOM summit, later on Monday December 5.
